Newsletter #4

Empowering older generations through creativity and climate advocacy!

After 24 months of creative collaboration, community engagement, and meaningful action across Europe, we are proud to present the final newsletter of the Seniors Climate Action (SCA) project.

This initiative has shown that age is no barrier to impact and that senior citizens have both the voice and the vision to contribute meaningfully to climate action, especially through artistic expression and intergenerational dialogue.

Creative Activities in Senior Care Facilities across Europe

One of the project’s most impactful components was the successful implementation of creative workshops and climate-themed activities in senior care facilities across partner countries. Seniors engaged with visual arts, artistic expression and environmental education in activities tailored to their mental and physical needs.

These visits and workshops not only fostered new skills and connections but also gave participants a sense of purpose in addressing global issues from a deeply personal perspective, with many seniors describing the experience as “eye-opening” and “energizing”.

Physical Exhibition of Senior Amateur Artwork

Another milestone was the successful presentation of the physical exhibition in each partner country, featuring artwork created by elderly amateur artists during senior care visits and activities. Displayed in community spaces, such as retirement homes, rehabilitation centers, and care facilities, these pieces reflected personal stories, environmental concerns, and hopeful visions for the planet’s future.

Final Conference & Multiplier Event in Athens, Greece

On Wednesday, July 2nd 2025, the project came to a celebratory and reflective conclusion with the Final Conference and Multiplier Event, hosted in Athens, Greece.

The evening began with a presentation of the project’s objectives, achievements and outputs, including the curriculum, the e-learning platform, digital exhibition and the toolkit. A dynamic panel discussion followed, featuring project partners and representatives from Greece, Slovakia, Italy and Spain, who spoke on how art can empower seniors and spark environmental awareness. The event closed with an open Q&A session, allowing attendees to engage directly with the project leaders and one another.

Final Transnational Partner Meeting in Athens, Greece

Coinciding with the final event, all project partners convened in Athens for the last transnational partner meeting. This gathering was a celebration of collaboration, alignment and shared purpose. Partners reviewed the project’s implementation and discussed potential future partnerships.

Looking Ahead

As the Senior Climate Action project formally concludes, we are hopeful that this is only the beginning of a much larger movement of senior-led environmental advocacy.
