Welcome to the first edition of the Seniors Climate Action newsletter!
We are thrilled to launch this initiative, co-funded by the European Union, to empower seniors in taking meaningful steps toward addressing the global climate crisis. Through education, advocacy, and community-driven actions, we aim to mobilise the wisdom, experience, and dedication of older generations to create a sustainable future for all. In this first edition, we will explore the goals of the project, highlight key activities, and share how seniors across Europe are leading the way in climate action. Together, we can make a difference—no matter our age!
Our Specific Objectives
- To raise awareness about environmental and climate change challenges and solutions for environmental sustainability.
- To develop the green sectoral skills that meet the needs of the elderly population, and especially senior visual artists.
- To create and test strategies and methodologies, as well innovative-oriented curricula on how to engage the elderly creative community into the fight against climate change.
- To empower older citizens with practical knowledge and skills focused on how to fight climate change.
- To sensitise senior artists for their active role as agents of change, acting as multipliers of the key concepts and engaging in environmental actions in their communities.
- To enable behavioural changes for individual preferences, consumption habits and lifestyle to the wider elderly EU community.
Our Activities
Curriculum
It aims to provide capacity-building opportunities for older artists that will improve their knowledge and understanding related to climate change, as well as their digital, networking and communications competences for claiming their role as green agents of change, acting as multipliers of the key concept and engaging in environmental actions in their communities. In particular, it is designed to meet the needs of older visual artists across the European Union, whose work is – or has the potential to – be related to the environment (and, therefore, the potential to raise awareness about environmental challenges at a local, national and European level).
The main themes that the Curriculum includes are the following interconnected modules:
- Module I: Environmental Problems and Solutions to Climate Change;
- Module II: Digital Tools to Raise Environmental Awareness;
- Module III: New Ways to Maximise Environmental Impact through Art;
- Module IV: Communication Tools for Artists in a Digitised, Connected World;
- Module V: The power of Senior Artists to contribute to a Greener World.
